PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

You cannot compare Art to the solid foundations of architecture or the theories of business economics. Art is so often built on the unpractical, where lines and shapes can be unbalanced….and where colour and texture can be authoritive.

In my painting I try to bring practical forms into an abstract world, where the original landscapes can often be unrecognisable and open to the viewers own interpretation(s). I revel in a belief that Art is in the eye of the beholder.

New to painting, I commenced my journey into the art world focused on projecting colour. In more recent times, I’ve been experimenting with the use of metallic finishes and drawing my inspiration from the urban landscape.

This, my inaugural exhibition is titled ‘Golden Moments”.

…..some examples of my work are below:

‘DON’T BOX ME IN’ expresses my interpretation of the middle suburbs of Melbourne, where Red is a dominant colour of the architectural landscape and where roads and trees compete within a boxed and intersecting landscape

‘WAY OUT WEST’ highlights how orderly lines from our sprawling suburbs are invading the dry clay soils, dust and occasional greenery of our regional spaces.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND INTERESTS

Curiously, it’s taken me over forty years to put paint to canvas and for this I thank my friend Linda who encouraged me to re-kindle a high school interest in painting. Linda encouraged me to complete a CAE course in 2010.

This course has given me the courage to build my first artistic portfolio and hold an exhibition.

Professionally I work in the corporate sector, managing a program of work to embed corporate responsibility into business practice.  ….and while this activity may seem a far cry from the artistic world, I think this background has brought an interesting perspective and input into my abstract art.

At a local level, I live in suburban Melbourne and have enjoyed the community aspects which come from bringing up three children attending local schools and participating in local sport.
